These are original drum & bass instrumentals with ambient pieces in between. The bass and drums have been purposefully mixed loud. While the overall mastering may seem more quiet than most recordings I did this to preserve the dynamics of the bass & drums so that those elements would retain their punchy, tight audio qualities. Most of the work for each track was done in Reason 5.0 which includes 95% of the synth designs and the main drum beats. Since Reason 5.0 does not support direct audio recording I had to render each track to an individual .wav file which I then imported into my favorite audio tracking software, Adobe Audition. From there I could further edit and tweak each sound using a variety of 3rd party effects and filters as well as record all of the guitar parts and several of the bass parts. In many places the synths you hear were actually performed on guitar or bass and then heavily edited and processed to achieve the synth-like sounds. For the drum tracks I imported the MIDI sequences from Reason into Audition where I could use EZDrummer sounds and in a lot of cases the drum fills as well. The main drum beats were all custom programmed but the majority of the drum fills were pulled directly from the EZDrummer library. The violin solo on Ear Cancer as well as the saxophone solo on Random Walk were both carefully assembled from lots of samples.
